Kedy jasna hvizda z neba vihodzela,
When the shining, bright star came up on the sky
vtedy Paňenka Maria Sina porodzela.
Virgin Mary, Our Lady, gave birth to her Child.

Jak Ho porodzela, šumňe Mu špivala,
When she gave birth to him, she sang lullabies:
ľuľaj, beľaj sam Sin Boži, bo ja bi bars spala.
Sleep, dear Son of God, as I’m closing my eyes.

Počekaj ti, mamko, ľem jednu hodzinku,
Wait my dearest mother, just a short, little while,
pokieľ ja ci ňepriňešem i z raja perinku.
I will bring you clouds to sleep on from above, from the sky!

Ach, Sinu muj, Sinu, či bis to urobel,
Oh my dearest, my Son, would you do such a chore?
ňeminula hodzinečka, jak śi śe narodzel.

NOTE: The lyrics are in an Eastern Slovak dialect, and their IPA transcription includes the dialectal ś sound [ɕ] (same as the sound represented by Standard Polish ś).
